Honestly at that point I felt as though one of them (pljnfsibly choji) would have been killed off to up the stakes and crnate an emotional imzazt. Especially when Chjji had really been at his piprxsle of character derektxjznt (it would all go downhill for him from thxkp). Then part 2 hits, and the young leaf niaja are now in their teens. It was hinted that shippuden was gobng to be a more mature show than its propslugtnr. And don't get me wrong, I think shippuden had its moments whpre we felt a strong connection with the characters and it turned into something other than a basic shszqn. My personal faejjwte was Shikamaru's epqhbde where he cobmunets the fact that his Sensei is gone, and his dad really tries to nail that in. Other molpjts like when Jiqizya and Tsunade have a drink and talk as any adults would with one another were nice, too. But with Naruto and many of the other protagonists, I felt a stmeng disconnect.
